This "Mod" (using the word mod very loosely) helps to fix this unknown lose of past training and experiences by allowing you to immersively (kinda) gain back your past skill and dig up your old military gear to help in your journey.Įach character has a bat file related to there story. Did the freezer take my training away? Why did I not get to choose background traits or skills that would define me?

I found this was not immersive, I could not explain why I was not skilled in anything. No training, a blank slate with little to nothing carrying over from your pre-nuke days in the military. I was ex-military, highly trained and always ready for whatever came my way! However, as most games, you start out useless (perk wise). This I thought was a great point to focus on when immersing myself in to the character. It needs some tuning, but that can be done much more easily than implementing a completely new system. When you first meet your character you are informed that you have only recently become a civilian after serving your time in the military. At the very least Bethesda had the right idea with a perk-based system. It would have to be reworked to better fit fps game and I'm not sure if any modder would attempt that in the near future. That doesn't mean you can't implement skills in 3DFallout again. There are similar problems with skills such as lockpicking - when you start to put a minigame instead of an rng based mechanic, there's a lot of less need for a 100-point skill to back it up. A skill that makes your ranged weapon swing a lot if you don't keep it high just doesn't work so well in a proper fps. That something that player can perfectly emulate for himself. Maybe I'm a bit biased here, but I think that gameplay quality shouldn't be sacrificed for some arbitrary systems that just throw logs under your feet when doing absolutely basic things to feel "less skilled in gunplay lorewise". The system itself just doesn't work good in fps environment.

May not be a problem, but some people just prefer other kinds of things.Ĭonsidering how it turned out in previous 3D Fallout games, simply converting the skill system to F4 wouldn't be a good thing at all, so it really would need gigantic amounts of work.
